Peter Fortune AM elected as City Hall Tories’ Deputy Leader

Updated: May 11, 2021

Bexley and Bromley's new London Assembly Member Peter Fortune has been unanimously elected as the GLA Conservatives' Deputy Leader.

As Deputy Leader, Mr Fortune will support the group's continuing leader, Susan Hall AM. Peter was elected to the role after Andrew Boff AM stood down from the position following the London Assembly election.

Peter Fortune, Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley, said: "I am deeply honoured that my colleagues have elected me to be the GLA Conservatives' new Deputy Leader. It is a privilege to follow Andrew Boff AM, an exemplary and effective London Assembly Member.

"As Deputy Leader, I will support Susan Hall AM as she leads our group's efforts to hold the Mayor's feet to the fire and make London a safer, more affordable city. Londoners may have given Sadiq Khan a second chance, but they also elected a larger Conservative group to keep him honest. So, we will do our job and robustly scrutinise the Mayor and ensure he puts Londoners' priorities first.

"As Bexley and Bromley's new Assembly Member, I will fight with colleagues to get Outer London a better deal from City Hall. That means getting more police officers on our streets, scrapping Sadiq Khan's disastrous boundary charge proposal, and protecting our precious green spaces and unique suburban character."

Susan Hall, Leader of the GLA Conservatives, said: "I'm delighted Peter Fortune will serve as Deputy Leader and help take the GLA Conservatives forward in this new term. He will be a wonderful advocate not only for Bexley and Bromley, but all Londoners who feel let down by Sadiq Khan."
